The COVID-19 Opportunity

It’s easy to get mired in the tragedy of COVID-19,  as it is a tragic event.  But it will release its grip at some point,  and important to think NOW,  about emerging with new ideas and methods.  Historically,  every period of great crisis generates a universe of new ideas that rose from the pain.  Thinking forward and reimagination on SO many levels is a rare benefit of these dangerous times of mass insanity and disease.

Below are some segments I collected from various sources ranging from Forbes to Stanford:

In building back better:

The COVID-19 crisis has affected societies and economies around the globe and will permanently reshape our world as it continues to unfold. While the fallout from the crisis is both amplifying familiar risks and creating new ones, change at this scale also creates new openings for re-imagining products, and ways to build back better

In aviation:

But the arrival of Covid-19 and its impact on aviation could've inadvertently cleared a flight path of opportunity for efforts to rethink the technology of getting the world up into the air. Shaking up the intellect and drive among aviation’s leaders and designers.

In procedures:

Many organizations suffer from slow procedures, complex bureaucracies and rigid hierarchies making organizational life less than pleasant. The coronavirus has forced many of them to break through these rigid systems and act instantly. Suddenly procedures can be skipped or accelerated, rules can be side-tracked and decisions can be made more autonomously without formal approval.

In meetings:

As referred to in an earlier article, people spend up to 23 hours per week in meetings, half of which are considered a failure or waste of time. The current crisis has forced us to rethink how we deal with meetings. Because in many countries it is not allowed anymore to meet with a group of persons, many meetings are cancelled. And when they still take place they are mostly virtual and shorter.

In overall opportunity:

Covid-19 is an unprecedented challenge for our economy and our businesses. But hidden amid those challenges and the pain are some opportunities for a brighter future. If businesses and executives pursue those opportunities when they arise, we can emerge from this in a stronger and better position.

In manufacturing:

COVID-19 has been brutal to the global manufacturing and supply chain ecosystems, medical device manufacturing included. But the manufacturing companies that survive COVID-19 will be the ones that recognized the innovation opportunities in the mix — not just problems.

In anti reversion:

A looming question is how to avoid reverting to the cumbersome and cautious legacy practices and risk-averse decision-making that had hobbled innovation performance in many organizations. Even before COVID-19 abates, there is a pressing need for for innovation if not radically new approaches to traditional operations.

A Question:

Media has begun transformation,  though predominantly in personnel and operational efficiencies—- will it, like in aviation and other industries,  evolve its look, feel and sound?
